Natural Resources
GEOTERRAIMAGE provides a wide range of environmental and conservation focussed mapping and monitoring services, both within South Africa, Africa and globally; using a comprehensive suite of Earth Observation technologies, imagery and spatial modelling techniques. A combination of off-the-shelf, generic, standard information products and services as well as client content-specific bespoke mapping services are offered.
These products and services are typically aligned with international standards and/or reporting requirements, such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and the UNFCC’s REDD+ required content.
Typically, the core component of environmental support services is the production of various forms of land-use, land-cover and/or vegetation maps, including time-based change analysis and monitoring. The range of products, services and client-specific support activities are aimed at providing key spatially-based intelligence which represents the base information on which subsequent planning, management and scenario modelling decisions are made.
This information is a key component in applications such as: Resource licensing application and use monitoring, Environmental impact assessments, Environmental base-line establishment, Land-use change impact monitoring, Natural capital accounting, Conservation planning, management and restorative activities, Ecosystem services modelling, REDD+ forest resource assessments, and Carbon stock modelling and assessment to name a few

Landscape Characterisation (encompassing Land-Cover Mapping)
Categorising landscapes in terms of land-cover and land-use characteristics is a key base information required for many geo-spatially management and resource monitoring activities.
Depending on the activity and the associated information needs, landscape characterisation can be required at range of spatial scales, geographical coverages, and time-series representations.
For example, high detail, local area information in support of cellular network planning and management in the urban landscape, through to the establishment of baseline resource inventories in more natural landscapes, for activities such as catchment-wide water resource planning, or vegetation inventory in support of Carbon or REDD+ assessments.
GTI has extensive, proven experience built around advanced image interpretation and modelling technologies, in both automated cloud-based and desk-top environments, that support the provision of cost-efficient landscape characterisation services, over any location, globally.

Intelligent information for water resource management
Water is a critical and scarce resource in southern Africa and is likely to become even more so as the regional impacts of global climate change become more evident. Mzansi Amanzi (Water South Africa), the first of its kind, enables easy access to, accurate information every month about water resources across the entire country.
