GEOTERRAIMAGE provides invaluable data solutions to the telecoms industry. Solutions include vectors (streets & roads), heights (Digital Elevation Models) and clutter (from 5m to 100m). A large and growing archive, of ready-to-use digital databases exist for many of the major African cities, as well as 40m resolution country coverage for all African countries. Our telecoms clients include some of the world’s major role players in telecommunication development.


The vector data layers consist of transportation networks (which include streets, secondary roads, main roads, highways and railways), rivers, water features (dams, lakes, etc) and coastlines. All vector data is captured from digital topographical maps, aerial photography and satellite images.


Heights data, or digital elevation models (DEM’s) are created from either the extraction of contours from scanned topographical maps, or from stereo pair satellite images. Whichever method is used, rigorous quality assurance steps ensure that the resulting DEM is of the highest possible quality.


Clutter data, or the mapping of features (natural or man-made) that have an impact on radio wave propagation, is generated from a variety of image sources, including Landsat, SPOT, Quickbird, WorldView digital aerial imagery and traditional aerial photography. The number of classes range from 6 classes for 100m data sets to 32 classes for 5m data sets.
